pork and beans. UPDATE

it’s a good song! not too bad. the lyrics are like beverly hills almost, but this time a lot dingier. it’s weird though, because ALL past weezer singles have had a solo in it. this one doesn’t. i like the chorus a lot, and the verse accompaniment (it sounds like this piano song i’ve played, i think it was a waltz). i got the clip from the weezer forum when everyone was freaking out that some radio station was premiering it. i’m looking forward to the video for it, if they plan to make one. it’ll be fun.
the song history: the band wrote it after they got complaints from the record company for not enough radio-friendly songs in the album. they wrote “pork and beans” due to those complaints.
i think the lyrics really reflect it: “i ain’t gotta a thing to prove you, i eat my candy with my pork and beans, excuse my manners if i make a scene…” i think really signifies that “yo, we’ll write a song, but we still have it our way with the rest of the album”. metaphorically, candy signifying the radio-friendly pop, with the pork and beans symboling the rest of the work, the work which is grittier and intended for the classic fans (as pork and beans IS a symbol of the classic canned food in America), there lies a balance with what weezer and geffen wanted. maybe i’m analyzing too much. rivers DID graduate from harvard with an english degree….but it’s so appalling to see him sing about “timbaland and being on top of the art”.
MUN is finished. it was nice, but exhausting.
i think vancouver is set from june 4th to june 18th? :0) (weezer album is released on the 17th)
